Benharmonia – our society of the future

Our dream: A better world

Deutsche Version        Versión española

Are you also concerned about the limits to economic growth, the increasing inequality between rich and poor, and between the Global South and North?

Fifty years ago, the Club of Rome warned of the effects of infinite growth, but according to the IMF, global economic growth is still increasing exponentially today. Global economic output has increased fivefold since 1970.

This growth plunders the resources of our planet and floods the seas with plastic waste and the atmosphere with greenhouse gases. Scientists warn of climate change, species extinction and the rise in sea level due to the melting of the polar ice caps.

The purpose of this economic growth is the accumulation of capital by a small percentage of people.

Until a few years ago, this growth could be achieved by shortening the lifespan of goods.

Further growth is to be achieved by the arms race that is just beginning. Once the arms race is over, there will inevitably be wars, because then reconstruction will have to contribute to further economic growth.

Don’t we want a better world?

But there is something even better.

I invite you to enter the world of BENHARMONIA.

Hello and welcome to Benharmonia!

The world has finally decided that from today on we will give each other our work. Money is therefore no longer necessary and because there are no more profits, the economy only produces what we really need to live happily and contentedly.

It was quite simple. Since money only enters the economy through wages, we have decided to do without our wages and salaries from today on.

Since we receive all raw materials and energy as gifts from the earth and the sun, goods no longer have any financial value and we can simply take what we need.

Don’t be surprised, because nothing has changed at all. The mobile phone is still there, the streets are still full of cars and tomorrow morning we will go back to work, college or school.

But in the next few days, weeks and months there will be huge changes. The first thing we will notice is that we don’t have to pay for our daily shopping in the shops.

When we come out of the shops, we will behave exactly the same way as we would if we received gifts, such as for a birthday or for Christmas. We will be very happy.

Social well-being will skyrocket as a result. Even more so than in our ‘dreamland’ Bhutan.

That’s it, really. Nothing more will happen for the time being.
Oh, and don’t be surprised if there’s no more advertising and no more discount offers. If you’re on the internet, you won’t need an ad blocker.

This is simply because no one is interested in giving away more than necessary.

You will see, only now can you recognise what you really need to be happy. Don’t forget your free time!

So that not too much has to be given away, the products will also last longer again. You will never have to worry about the printer or coffee machine breaking down just after the warranty because in the future, the economy will be there exclusively for us and not for the profit of entrepreneurs and banks.

If less is produced, then of course there will be much less waste and exhaust gases. We will probably have achieved the long-term climate goals in a few days. And since fewer raw materials are needed, the deforestation of the rainforests will come to an end. And of course the wars will come to a very quick end because the scarcity of raw materials will have come to an end and no more money will be made from the sale of weapons.

You probably have a lot of questions now.Read More
